Section 6 of 6

The title of section 6

We know that increasing carbon in the atmosphere causes global temperatures to rise and extreme events to increase. But what does the future look like?

Our future depends on the choices we make today.

Can you think of a choice you made in the past that impacts you today? Much like that, our collective future is dependent on the decisions we make in the present.

Considering the different future scenarios we’ve seen, which one do you think will have more extreme events?

The scenario with the most extreme events is the one with the highest greenhouse gases and, therefore, the highest temperatures.

To avoid the worst climate scenario, we must reduce the amount of human made greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.

And we must do it fast.

Scientists, engineers, business leaders and people in almost every career you can think of are working on developing solutions to climate change. This includes the scientists at UL Research Institutes who are working to ensure a safe climate.

Scientists at ULRI’s Material Discovery Research Institute (MDRI) are working to develop new materials that can be used to capture carbon, like a natural carbon sink, and to replace fossil fuels with clean energy.

Scientists at ULRI’s Electrochemical Safety Research Institute (ESRI) are working to improve the safety of batteries that are needed to store clean energy for when we need it.

The good news about climate change is that we have many solutions in place, and many more are being developed.

In order to return to a safe, stable climate, we need to implement them.

Can you think of how these solutions might be implemented in your community?

A safe future climate requires that we implement solutions. Interested in being part of the solution? There are many great organizations you can join.
